Masa Memorial Essay Contest Winners

For the fourth year in a row, The Children of Lavié is conducting the Masa Memorial Essay Contest which rewards the winning students for their hard work and commitment to pursuing an education in the face of extremely difficult circumstances. This year the older children were asked to write about how long they would like to pursue their education and why, middle school children were asked to describe why they want to go to school and complete their education and the younger ones were asked to draw something and describe the image they drew.

The drawing below depicts a powerful image of a young man and a young woman engaged in manual labor but dreaming of going to school instead. This image conveys the exact reason that The Children of Lavié exists and is striving to achieve its mission.

Of the 176 entries only 25 will be chosen as the winning essays or drawings. Each of the winners will receive a certificate and cash prize next fall.
